Cops: 7-year-old arrested for BB gun incident

Waterbury (AP) — Waterbury police say they arrested a 7-year-old boy who brought a pellet gun onto his school bus.

Police said Wednesday that the first-grader showed the gun to other children on the bus ride to Hopeville Elementary School on April 11. They say the bus driver noticed a commotion and confiscated the gun, which resembled a real gun. No one was hurt.

Officers say the boy found the gun in his uncle's drawer. He was charged with carrying a dangerous weapon and released to his parents. School officials also suspended him for seven days.

The boy's name wasn't released because of his age.

Police say the Newtown school shootings played a role in an officer's decision to arrest the boy, whose case will be handled by a Juvenile Court judge.
