    WATERBURY HOSPITAL WARNS OF LAYOFFS

Waterbury Hospital has notified the state that some of its food service workers could face layoffs, depending on how contract talks go with the company that handles the work.

The hospital's contract with Sodexo expires June 21, said Matt Burgard, a hospital spokesman. Because the federal Worker Adjustment and Retraining Notification requires employers of 100 or more full-time workers to give 60 days advance notice of possible facilities closings or mass layoffs, Waterbury Hospital was required to notify of the state Department of Labor.

The WARN notice said there is the potential for as many as 173 food service workers being laid off.
