Big-rig program had little people smiling

This letter is a small token of gratitude to all the public servants who made the Stonington Free Library's "Touch A Truck" program on April 4 such a success. The Stonington Borough Fire Department, the Neptune Engine Company, the Stonington Police Department, the Stonington Public Works Department and the Stonington Ambulance Corps all provided vehicles that were sparkling clean along with staff volunteers who were kind, helpful, welcoming and informative.

The children had a chance to explore every vehicle, try on some firefighter gear and go for a stretcher ride. There were so many smiling small faces behind the wheels of some truly "big rigs." The 150 people in attendance had a wonderful afternoon and are still talking about the great time everyone had. There are too many helpers to individually list, and so many big hearted volunteers who helped to make this a very special afternoon for the children of our communities. These are the things that forge community ties.Maris Frey
