Stonington - The Velvet Mill will be a potpourri of activity Friday when two local Chambers of Commerce get together for the second annual Fusion fundraiser.
The event at 22 Bayview Ave. in Stonington borough is sponsored by the Greater Mystic Chamber of Commerce and the Greater Westerly-Pawcatuck Area Chamber of Commerce from 7 to 11 p.m. It is marketed as a wine-and-food-tasting experience that includes art exhibits and body painting.
Regional restaurants participating will be Bridge, Foxwoods, Gourmet Galley Catering, Haversham Inn and Octagon. The Real McCoy Rum will also be providing samples of its drinks, including its signature cocktail, the Dirty Barbados. Beer and wine will be available for purchase as well.
Several Velvet Mill artists will be at the mill from 7 to 9 p.m. and others will open their studios as the band Sugar performs from 8 to 11 p.m.
Live body painting will be done on 12 male and female models, and free commemorative photos will be supplied by Smashing Photo Booth.
April's Balloon Creations & Simply Enchanted Fairy Tale Entertainment will supply a special creation to make the event even more memorable. Susan Adam of Gira! Events and Florals will create the night-club environment using unique lighting, furniture and design elements.
Tickets are limited and may be obtained for $40 in advance or $50 at the door at either of the chambers. For information, visit www.mysticchamber.org or westerlychamber.org or call (860) 572-9578 or (401) 596-7761.
