On Friday, May 10, Shoreline Village CT (SVCT) officially began one of its many services and programs, providing rides to members.
Based on the shoreline and serving residents in towns including Branford, Guilford and Madison, non-profit SVCT is creating a virtual community among area seniors who enjoy living independently at home. Members connect with SVCT to enjoy options ranging from a menu of support services to interacting at social events.
The program follows an age-in-place village concept which has succeeded in many other areas of the nation. SVCT officially launched its services to members on May 1, 2013, and the first scheduled ride requested by a member took place on May 10.
“Our first ride was a great success,” said Sue Wharfe, SVCT Executive Director. “One of our volunteers, Bob Weltzien, was delighted to escort Albina Buzzi to the hairdresser. The sun shone, the flowers bloomed and Albina, looking very spry and youthful, easily negotiated Bob's car and they enjoyed becoming acquainted. A trip to the dollar store completed the outing. Albina can look forward to many more such trips, thanks to our wonderful volunteers.”
