Fitch boys, NFA girls will try to defend ECC titles in track

Fitch's Tyler Latham (110-meter hurdles, 300 hurdles), East Lyme's Ben Ostrowski (400, 800) and Montville's Jesse Joseph (1,600, 3,200) are each the top seeds in two individual events at today's Eastern Connecticut Conference Track & Field Championship at Montville High School. The meet begins at 9:30 a.m.

Latham, the defending State Open champ in the javelin, is also the No. 2 seed in that event with a throw of 184 feet, 10 inches. The javelin's top seed is East Lyme's Kevin Foster (189-8), who won the meet last year. Fitch scored 128.5 points to win last year's boys' team title.

Norwich Free Academy took first place in the girls' team competition last year with 161 points. The Wildcats have five top seeds in today's meet: Ally Briggs/Gabby Wise/Katherine Gabriele in the pole vault, Erin Schaeffer in the high jump, Dyshelle Pemberton in the 400, Camille McKenzie in the 300 hurdles and Brianna Lenehan in the 800.
