Over the years, I've compiled about 812 studio, live and compilation albums by Nektar, the British psych/prog band. Somehow, I'd never gotten around to this double in-concert disc recorded five years ago on their 40th anniversary tour. An expansive collection spanning their adventurous career, "Fortyfied" demonstrates not only what terrific musicians they are but also what a nice collection of shimmering and timeless tunes they've written. Here, along with a few newer works, they play the entire "A Tab in the Ocean" record as well as side-long chunks of the sublime "Recycled" and "Remember the Future" albums. If you've never heard Nektar, get the originals first. This is cool but probably for old-school fans rather than as an introduction.
