Overnight parking proposed for Stonington Point

Published May 27. 2013 4:00AM

Stonington - Borough officials are considering a plan that would allow residents to park overnight at Stonington Point.

Warden Jeff Callahan said the plan was suggested by resident Jesse Diggs as a way to help alleviate the parking shortage and congestion along the narrow borough streets, especially in the summer.

Callahan said the Board of Warden and Burgesses is in the early stages of investigating the idea and will talk to groups affected by the proposal such as the Village Improvement Association, police, and Stonington Historical Society along with residents before making any decision.

He said that residents with placards are currently allowed to park overnight at Whalen's Wharf. A placard system is also envisioned for Stonington Point.
