New London —Two men were arrested and more arrests are expected after a Friday night shooting near the intersections of Wightman Road and Maple Avenue.

Maximiliano Purdue-Pulido, 21, of 21B Wightman Road, was charged with first-degree criminal attempt/assault, first-degree reckless endangerment, unlawful discharge of a firearm and tampering with evidence. He remains jailed on $100,000 bond.

Police say that Purdue-Pulido confessed to shooting the unidentified victim. The victim was taken to Lawrence & Memorial Hospital with non-life threatening injuries.

After responding to the call that shots were fired at 11:20 p.m., New London police were led to the second floor apartment at 21 Wightman Road. Police say a search warrant for the residence was obtained and turned up a firearm, ammunition, several ounces of marijuana, about $1,000 in cash and at least five marijuana plants. All items were seized.

Neighbors on Maple and Willetts avenues said they heard five shots, and one woman, who declined to be identified, said she saw police chase a man down Willetts toward Montauk Avenue.

Donald L. Guilbert, 40, of no certain address, was charged with interfering with a police officer after allegedly fleeing the scene when officers arrived. Police say Guilbert is a person of interest in the case, and the investigation is ongoing.

Friday night, police searched the yards and around the houses with flashlights and a dog, and escorted one woman from the second floor of the Wightman Street house into a cruiser, where she was being interviewed.
