Man killed in hit-and-run accident in Plainfield

Plainfield — A pedestrian was killed late Monday night in a hit-and-run accident reported on School Street near the intersection of Putnam Road and Main Street in the Central Village section of town.

Police said the incident was reported at 11:20 p.m. Witnesses to the accident reported that the fleeing car was traveling northbound on Main Street and turned left onto School Street, striking the victim that was attempting to cross the road.

The victim identified as Robert E. Johnson, 59, of Central Village, was treated at the scene by medical personnel and later taken to the Plainfield Backus emergency room, where he was later pronounced dead.

Police said the vehicle, possibly an Isuzu Rodeo or Toyota 4-Runner, fled westbound on School Street without stopping or rending assistance to Johnson.

The Plainfield Police Department  with the assistance of the State Police Accident Reconstruction Team is investigating the accident.
