Local chowders stand out in competition
Octagon Restaurant at the Mystic Marriott Hotel & Spa received one of the top honors at the 32nd annual Polar Seltzer Great Chowder Cook-Off, held recently at the Newport Yachting Center in Rhode Island.
Octagon received a first place award in the "Most Creative" category for its Dragon Chowder, an Asian-inspired recipe featuring alligator, lobster and skate wing.
StoneRidge of Mystic earned a third-place nod in the Best Seafood Chowder category.
Festival attendees selected the winners by vote.
