Stonington — Girl Scouts of Connecticut donated 5,769 boxes of Girl Scout Cookies to the Coast Guard Foundation Tuesday, May 14.
More than 130,000 boxes of cookies were purchased this season for the Cookies for Heroes Gift of Caring program, where customers could buy cookies for service men and women overseas and at home.
The Coast Guard Foundation loaded cookies onto four vehicles, with one headed toward New York and Staten Island, another throughout southern New England, a third to the Coast Guard Academy, International Ice Patrol and the Coast Guard Research and Development Center and a fourth to barracks in the Boston area.
“It’s our way of saying thank you,” said Mary Barneby, CEO of Girl Scouts of Connecticut. Anne B. Brengle, president of the foundation, said the foundation was grateful for the gift to the Coast Guard.
