Waterford — Six people were rescued from a sinking boat off Waterford Beach Saturday afternoon after the captain said he believed he had hit something and the boat had started taking on water, according to the Goshen Fire Department.
No one was injured and there was no fuel leak, Goshen Fire Chief Donald Chapman Jr. said.
The boat, which was a 63-foot fishing-type vessel, was three-quarters submerged minutes after taking on water, Chapman said. He did not know the name of the boat and did not interview anyone on board.
Chapman said the owners were waiting for a salvage company to arrive to tow the boat away.
The Goshen fire boat, along with a Coast Guard boat and a vessel from the Department of Energy and Environmental Protection, also showed up.
An official from Coast Guard Station New London said the incident was under control when the Coast Guard arrived and no report was made.
