Norwich - The Tri-City ValleyCats, held scoreless through nine innings, broke through for five runs in the top of the 10th inning Sunday and held on to beat the Connecticut Tigers 5-2 in a New York-Penn League game at Dodd Stadium.
Dan Gulbransen singled home two runs and a third came home on an error.
Michael Martinez and Jose Fernandez added run-scoring singles for Tri-City (6-1).
Ben Verlander hit a two-run single in the bottom of the 10th for the Tigers (1-5) but Tri-City's Pat Christensen retired the next three batters to end the game.
Javier Azcona doubled and scored a run for Connecticut. Four pitchers combined to pitch nine shutout innings with 11 strikeouts.
American Legion Zone VI
• Izzy Davila pitched a complete game, allowing five hits while striking out 10 and walking one in New London's 3-1 win over Moosup in Zone VI action.
Aaron Hill doubled, Gabriel Diaz tripled and Shawn Nadeau added an RBI single for New London (9-2).
In other action, New London swept a doubleheader from Moosup Saturday night, winning 3-1 and 2-1. Nadeau and Peter Aldrich drove in runs in the first game.
Tristan Hurley (2-0) allowed just an unearned run over seven innings in the second game, striking out six, and Andrew Fogarty earned the save. Nadeau had an RBI double in the second game.
SEC 16-18 Babe Ruth
• Dylan Konakowitz, Griffen Archambault and Anthony Jordan drove in two runs each as first-place Waterford beat Norwich 10-2. Griffin Beaney had two hits and scored twice and Konakowitz score twice for Waterford (5-1).
Colin Harrington was the winner, allowing one hit over six innings with eight strikeouts.
District 10 (11-12) softball
• Emily Nelson tossed a three-hitter and struck out seven, leading Mystic past Waterford North, 8-4, in a District 10 softball tournament game.
Angelina Doak and Emily Nelson each had a double and two RBI while Casey Flax had two RBI in a four-run fifth inning for Mystic.
Ashlee Hancock had a single and triple and Cassidy Susi doubled for Waterford North.
• Winning pitcher Molly Reagan had three hits in Waterford South's 14-4 win over Montville. Juliana Bonilla had a single, double and triple while Ciana Chiappone, Chloe McCue and Lil Stoddard each had two hits for Waterford South.
Ally Discuillo and Angel Skulczyck each had a hit for Montville.
