East Lyme — Two police officers were injured earlier this month during all-terrain vehicle training exercises.

East Lyme Resident Trooper Sgt. Wilfred Blanchette said Tuesday the officers were injured in two separate training exercises on June 12.

Blanchette did not disclose the name of the officers. He said one broke a wrist and the other broke a rib. He said one officer is expected back at work next week, while the other will need a couple more weeks to recover.

"The training is actually harder than the normal operation," said Blanchette. "We have to do our due diligence and train for every situation."

Blanchette said the ATVs are use for beach patrol and rescues and search and rescues in wooded areas.
