NL woman charged in stabbing

New London — Police charged a local woman with stabbing a man in the arm Saturday afternoon and the had to pepper spray the victim after he became aggressive towards officers, police said.

Police said they responded to 70 West Coit St, at 3:24 p.m. for a report of a domestic disturbance. There they found Christopher Benites, 32, with a stab wound and Marta Colon, 32, holding a large kitchen knife. Both live at 70 West Coit St.

When police tried to arrest Colon, they said Benites became aggressive towards them. Colon was charged with second-degree assault and disorderly conduct while Benites was charged with interfering with a police officer. The state Department of Children and Families assisted police in the investigation.
