New London – A New London man was arrested Monday by state police for allegedly calling in a bomb threat to the New London courthouse located at 112 Broad St.

Kahlil Soria, 22, of 15 West Coit St., was charged with second-degree harassment, threatening and breach of peace.

State police said at 9:30 a.m. a person, later identified as Soria, called the courthouse and said that an explosive device was going to be brought into the courthouse.  State police evacuated and secured the building.

Soria was due for sentencing in the major crimes courthouse on Huntington Street at 10 a.m. A court official said he had called the threat into the wrong courthouse.

Detectives from the state police Major Crime Squad investigated and later uncovered that Soria made the phone call. He was arrested later that afternoon at L+M Hospital, where he had been taken for treatment of an undisclosed medical complaint after showing up on time for his sentencing. He was processed at Troop E in Montville and then transferred to the Corrigan Correctional Center in Uncasville.

This past April he admitted to violating his probation and was scheduled to be sentenced on Monday to 30 months in prison, suspended after nine months served and three years’ probation at the Part A courthouse on Huntington Street.

Court records also show that he was sentenced on Jan. 28, 2010, to four years in prison, suspended after 18 months served and three years’ probation for second-degree robbery.
