    Ledyard lizard on the loose

Ledyard — Police are asking the public to report any sightings of an escaped monitor lizard that was seen this afternoon on Spicer Hill Road.

Sgt. Craig Getter said a caller reported seeing the lizard on the road at about 3 p.m. A police officer went to the scene and saw it, but was unable to capture the animal before it escaped into the woods, he said. The officer estimated the lizard to be about four feet long.

“It was reported by a passer-by,” Getter said. “No one has reported one missing.”

Anyone who sees the lizard is asked to call (860) 464-6500.
