Providence, R.I. (AP) — A planned memorial at the West Warwick site of a nightclub fire that killed 100 people is on track to break ground in the fall.
Victoria Eagan of the Station Fire Memorial Foundation said Tuesday that groundbreaking is anticipated at the end of October.
The memorial will honor victims of the 2003 Station fire, and recognize first responders and those who helped care for the injured.
The group has said it wants to raise $1 million. Eagan says they have raised more than $200,000 and will keep raising money until they have enough for a maintenance fund.
Their latest fundraiser is Aug. 2. Matthew and Gunnar Nelson, sons of Ricky Nelson, will donate a portion of ticket sales from their show in Hanover, Mass., to the foundation.
