Ledyard - A Rhode Island man was killed in a one-vehicle accident early this morning on Lantern Hill Road.
When emergency personnel responded at 2:24 a.m. to the area of 633 Lantern Hill Road, near the Ledyard-North Stonington town line, they found two people in the roadway needing medical assistance and a third person trapped in the front passengers seat of a vehicle down a steep embankment.
The person in the vehicle, Ryan Partridge, 25, of West Greenwich, R.I., was dead, according to police. Michael Paolantonio, 28, of Coventry, R.I., and David Governo, 25, of Coventry R.I., were taken the William W. Backus Hospital for treatment.
Ledyard police said the initial investigation has determined that the vehicle was traveling south on Lantern Hill Road when it left the travel portion of the roadway to the west, traveled down a steep embankment and overturned before coming to rest. The accident remains under investigation by the Ledyard Police Department Accident Reconstruction Team and state police.
Fire departments from Ledyard, Gales Ferry, North Stonington and Center Groton also responded, as did Ledyard Volunteer Emergency Squad, North Stonington Ambulance, American Ambulance, and Lawrence + Memorial Hospital Paramedics.
