Dive into a new exhibit

To celebrate a show premiering the series of etchings that included his "The Sleep of Reason Produces Monsters," Francisco Goya tried his damnedest to think of a jokey title for the exhibition. Couldn't pull it off. Not so with "Fish n' Ships," though, a new installation opening Thursday in New London's Gallery at Firehouse Square. Featuring marine paintings by Tony Falcone and similarly oceanic sculptures by Gar Waterman, the works offer two different but complementary approaches to the aquatic world. (Waterman's "Yellow Eyed Grouper" is shown above.) Meet the artists Thursday at a reception from 5:30 to 8 p.m. Runs through Aug. 31. 239 Bank Street, New London; (860)447-2519, firehousesquare.com.
