Branford resident Benjamin Filardi, 21, was the victim of a fatal motor vehicle accident occurring in the early morning hours of Sat. Aug. 17. He died from injuries sustained from the collision.
A second Branford man, Randy Makles, 29, suffered serious injuries after his car was struck by Filardi’s vehicle, according to state police. He was transported from the scene by ambulance to Yale-New Haven Hospital. As of Mon. Aug. 19, the incident remained under investigation and further details involving Makle’s injuries were not available.
Filardi’s vehicle was reportedly traveling south-bound on north-bound Interstate 95 near exit 41 when his vehicle, which state police stated did not have operable headlights, crashed into the car driven by Makles. Makles was traveling north-bound on the highway.
According to Filardi’s obituary, he was a 2009 graduate of Notre Dame High School and was attending Bryant University in Smithfield, RI. His family has set a funeral mass to take place on Wed. Aug. 21 at St. Mary's Church in New Haven.
