Fire quickly extinguished in New London

New London – Firefighters quickly extinguished a small fire this afternoon that was found smoldering in the wall of a home at 41 Montauk Ave.

New London Fire Battalion Chief Edward Sargent said after entering the home, firefighters followed the smoke and used a thermal imaging camera to find the fire inside the wall. Firefighters used tools to open up the wall and extinguish the fire. The fire, reported at 2:45 p.m., was out within five minutes, Sargent said.

Fire Marshal Calvin Darrow said the cause of the fire remains under investigation, but it appears to have started outside the building.
