Farmington - The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints President Thomas S. Monson and more than 600 people celebrated on August 17 the groundbreaking of the first LDS temple in the state and the second in New England.

The temple is slated to be built by autumn 2015 on the corner of Farmington Avenue and Melrose Drive in Farmington.

The Hartford temple’s district will encompass Connecticut, part of Rhode Island, western Massachusetts and portions of New York in the north and east, according to a press release.

The “turning of the soil” ceremony was broadcast to 67 meetinghouses in the region.

We're a week away from the Labor Day weekend. How do you feel about this?
Not so great. It's the signal I have to hunker down with longer work hours and winterize my boat.
Stunned. How could the summer have flown by so fast?
Great. Can't wait for football and school to start.
