New London residents should prepare for nighttime road work

New London — Night work is expected to begin Tuesday on Bank Street and Lee and Jefferson avenues, continuing through Sept. 17. Residents will have to make alternate parking arrangements overnight during road reconstruction.

Work is expected to take place between 7:30 p.m. and 5:30 a.m.

The state Department of Transportation will begin with milling and paving Bank Street, from the intersection of Shaw and Truman streets to the Waterford town line. Lee Avenue will follow, and then Jefferson Avenue, between Bank and Colman streets.

No-parking signs will be posted a few days before the work is scheduled to begin. Residents should find alternate parking. Cars in the way of the work will be towed at the owner's expense. Residents also should remove any items mounted on the walls inside their homes due to vibrations from the machinery and equipment being used.

Yankee Gas has completed upgrading gas lines and service connections and the city has been installing granite curbing, replacing concrete sidewalks and installing concrete driveway aprons. The DOT also is doing signalization work and drainage work on the three roads.

Information also is available at the Public Works Department, (860) 447-5250, between 8 a.m and 4 p.m. In an emergency, residents should contact the police department.

Do you think the U.S. should strike Syria for the alleged deadly chemical weapons attack?
Yes. This was Obama's 'red line' and Syria crossed it.
I agree with congressmen who are urging the president to seek U.N. Security Council approval before proceeding.
I don't think the U.S. should do this unilaterally.
No. A punitive strike would do nothing to protect Syrian civilians.
A U.S. strike would only escalate the conflict by drawing neighboring countries into the fight.
