Ledyard man charged with sexual abuse of underage girl

New London - Police on Monday lodged new charges against a 37-year-old man accused of repeatedly sexually abusing a young female family member over the course of six years.

Shayne A. Buckley, with a last known address of 1500 Route 12, No. 19, in Gales Ferry, was initially arrested on Aug. 24 and charged with risk of injury to a minor. The arrest followed investigation into a complaint filed by a 12-year-old girl from New London.

During a court appearance on Monday in New London, police served an additional arrest warrant charging Buckley with three counts of risk of injury to a minor, three counts first-degree sexual assault and one count of fourth-degree sexual assault.

Buckley was held in lieu of a $250,000 bond and has been held at Corrigan Radgowski Correctional Center since his arrest in August.
