Old Saybrook - The fire department will host a recruiting open house on Tuesday at 7 p.m. at fire headquarters at 310 Main Street.
The open house will feature presentations by firefighters, including a simulated motor-vehicle extrication, as well as a video presentation and discussion of the various benefits of serving as a volunteer firefighter.
This is the first recruit drive by the all-volunteer fire department since 2008, and is intended to add to the department’s current 65 firefighters.
“This is a great chance for Old Saybrook residents to really help out their community by volunteering,” said Chief of Department J.T. Dunn. “These new recruits will join a fire department with a proud history of service, training and commitment to Old Saybrook for nearly 90 years,” he added.
The fire department offers in-house training for its firefighters and provides all necessary equipment for new volunteers. It also offers a town-provided pension plan and tax-abatement plan. Recruits must be Old Saybrook residents, at least 18 years old and hold a valid driver’s license.
