Norwich police seize 21 guns, arrest suspected drug dealer

Norwich — Police say they discovered a cache of 21 guns Wednesday during a raid at a suspected drug dealer's home on Broad Street.

At 4:20 p.m., police detectives and patrol officers executed a narcotics-related search warrant at 100 Broad St., Apt. 103. The warrant was obtained as a result of investigation by the narcotics unit into complaints about drug-dealing from the apartment, Norwich Police Sgt. James Tetreault said in a statement.

At the apartment, police seized 13 handguns, five rifles and three shotguns. Many of the firearms were loaded and more than half were not registered to the resident, 34-year-old Kevin M. Ganns. Police said they also seized several grams of cocaine and heroin, 23 Suboxone strips, prescription narcotics, two digital scales and cutting agents used to process the cocaine for street level sales.

Police additionally seized several thousand rounds of various caliber ammunition and over $240 in cash, Tetreault said.

Ganns was charged with operating a drug factory, possession of cocaine, possession of cocaine with intent to sell, possession of heroin, possession of heroin with intent to sell, possession of narcotics with intent to sell and two counts of possession of narcotics.

Ganns has a valid pistol permit at the time of his arrest. The permit was seized, to be forwarded to the State Firearms Bureau for review, police said.

The Federal Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives assisted with the investigation and will continue research on the firearms.

Ganns was held in lieu of a $50,000 bond and is scheduled to appear Thursday in Norwich Superior Court.
