Two men arraigned in Ledyard home invasion case

Two men were arraigned Monday in connection with a Friday morning home invasion in Ledyard.

Vincent Sebastian III, 20, of 60 Coachman Pike, Ledyard, and Louis Seignious, 22, of 65 Sunny Hill, Montville, each face charges of home invasion, first-degree burglary, criminal use of a firearm and first-degree criminal attempt/robbery.

A third suspect in the home invasion has not been identified or charged.

At the G.A. 10 courtroom in New London, Judge Stuart M. Schimelman set bond at $750,000 each for Sebastian and Seignious, citing the seriousness of the allegations and the significant minimum mandatory sentences. Both men were appointed a public defender.

The state prosecutor described both men as "suspects in recent home invasions in Norwich and Montville" and requested a bond of at least $500,000.

Seignious has seven cases pending on the court docket, the bail commissioner said, including a February arrest on numerous charges including carrying a dangerous weapon, attempted assault on a police officer and reckless driving. He was also charged with violating probation four times and larceny, the bail commissioner said.

Sebastian does not have an extensive record, the state prosecutor said, but asked for the $500,000 bond because of the current charges. The bail commissioner said Sebastian was charged last year in Rhode Island, where he was born, with breaking and entering and in Connecticut in May with possession of marijuana and breach of peace, as well as a recent probation violation.

Sebastian is also facing a robbery charge from another case in which he and another man are suspected of using handguns to steal about $90 and a phone from a taxi driver in Ledyard. Schimelman set bond at $75,000 in that case.

According to state police, three men, one armed with a small silver handgun, entered a home on Marla Avenue in Ledyard about 9 a.m. Friday. The men held the occupants at gunpoint, police said, while searching for items to steal. The men eventually fled, police said, and there were no reported injuries. Seignious and Sebastian were arrested that afternoon in Norwich.

Seignious' case was continued to Oct. 31; Sebastian returns to court Nov. 2.
