An East Haven police detective, already under suspension, turned himself into inspectors of the state Department of Motor Vehicles on unknown charges today.
Detective Robert Ranfone was the policeman suspended.
Ranfone has been suspended from the police department after an incident in January 2013 where he and several other officers allegedly violated a woman’s constitutional rights while investigating a purse theft. He has not been charged in that case.
East Haven police released the following statement: “Detective Ranfone has been suspended pending the outcome of an internal investigation. The East Haven Police Department has no further information or comment at this time.’’
DMV Police Chief James Rio could not be immediately reached for comment.
