Faulty underground cable disrupts power in New London and Waterford

New London— Power has been restored to the more than 3,000 customers in New London and Waterford who were left in the dark after a faulty underground cable on Williams Street disrupted power in the area.

At its peak, Connecticut Light & Power reported that 2,605 customers  in New London and 456 in Waterford were in the dark.

CL&P spokesman Mitch Gross said crews rerouted power as they repaired the cable.

The outage forced the New London Police Department to run on emergency generators while New London firefighters responded to numerous elevator entrapments.
