Groton — The Chamber of Commerce of Eastern Connecticut has postponed its annual Military Appreciation Breakfast scheduled for this Friday because of the federal government shutdown.
The shutdown has limited the activities that service members can participate in. A new date for the fourth annual event has not yet been set.
“The decision to postpone the event was made in conjunction with the U.S. Navy and the U.S. Coast Guard,” Tony Sheridan, chamber president, said in a statement. “Rescheduling the event undoubtedly causes additional work for the chamber staff, but the additional work does not come close to the inconvenience that furloughed federal employees and their families are facing at this time.”
The chamber invited more than 120 military men and women, at no cost to them, to the breakfast at the Mystic Marriott Hotel and Spa in Groton.
Anyone who purchased a ticket and would like more information can contact the chamber office at (860) 701-9113.
