Norwich – Former Mayor Ben Lathrop will receive the Eighth Annual Palmer Davies Leadership Award from United Community & Family Service for his commitment to the community, UCFS announced this week.
Lathrop, a founding member of the Read to Ride Program, started The Mayor’s Cup Challenge, an event that raised money to add to the city’s food pantry, UCFS said in a news release.
Lathrop has served as alderman, president pro tem as well as mayor. He is a member of the Rotary Community Corporation and volunteers regularly at the soup kitchen. He has served as a mentor and role model for the students in the Norwich Public School System and continues to be active with various community organizations.
“Ben is a go-to type of person. No matter when I call or for what reason, Ben is always ready to lend a hand. Ben makes decisions from his heart and truly cares about his community. His commitment to those who need help is admirable,” said Billy Caron, president of the Read to Ride Program.
UCFS will recognize Lathrop at its Annual Meeting at 5 p.m. October 24th at The Backus Business & Technology Center, 11 Stott Ave. (across from Dodd Stadium). Those planning to attend should contact Pamela Allen Kinder at (860) 822-4146 or at: email@example.com">firstname.lastname@example.org.
