Melanie J. Lawton has joined the Niantic office (860-451-8057) of Weichert, Realtors-Suburban Properties as a Realtor and Brian Valenti has joined the sales team of the agency's Guilford office.
A native of Norwich now living in Waterford, Lawton will assist homebuyers and sellers in southeastern Connecticut. A notary public, she is also a financial aid coordinator at Connecticut College.
A 40-year resident of Connecticut with 11 years in real estate, Valenti will assist homebuyers and sellers in New Haven. He lives in Cheshire.

The Greater Mystic Chamber of Commerce will honor Leo Roche of Harp and Hound as Employer of the Year, Scott Gladstone and Neil Ryan of Wireless Zone as Community Service Award recipients, and the Groton Business Association Events Committee as Volunteer of the Year.

The Chamber of Commerce of Eastern CT has partnered with the Holiday Inn Norwich to host a re-launch event celebrating the completion of the hotel's renovations, along with the Norwich location's sixth anniversary on Oct. 22 at 5:30 p.m. The hotel has just concluded $1.3 million in improvements, and the local community is invited to tour the newly upgraded facility, enjoy complimentary hors d'oeuvres and cocktails, live entertainment, and giveaways, including overnight stays in Boston.

Ken and Kimballi Startz, Community Hearing Aids of Connecticut owners, were one of the first to receive continuing education about Audibel's latest technologies at the recent Audibel Owners Summit in Eden Prairie, Minn.
Courses during the weekend included detailed training on Audibel's A2/Start Classic hearing aid technology, retail marketing best practices, and continued education on how to provide individualized attention to patients.
Community Hearing Aids of Connecticut was presented awards for its extraordinary accomplishments in three categories: The Starkey Hearing Angel program for their contributions to the Starkey Hearing Foundation, The Directors Award "for going above and beyond to help the hearing impaired in our community," and the Customer Service Gold Award.

The Young Professionals of Eastern Connecticut will host a YPsocial after hours networking event Oct. 24 at Arthur Murray Dance Studio in Niantic. This event, which runs from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m., is Halloween-themed and prizes will be awarded for the best costumes in a variety of categories.
Attending a YPsocial is free for YPECT members, and non-members can attend one event for $10. Complimentary food and drinks are provided. Each month, the group convenes to socialize and meet new professional contacts in a casual and interesting setting.
