Ribbon cutting for East Lyme's new athletic field tonight

East Lyme — The community will celebrate the completion of the new athletic field by the high school at 6:30 tonight before the homecoming game.

The new multi-season, larger field will accommodate additional sports, including soccer and lacrosse, so students will not have to play some sports off campus, said Don Meltabarger, the district’s business and facilities director.

Residents approved $3.45 million in 2012 for a new athletic complex. The expanded facility includes an artificial turf field, energy-efficient lighting, bleachers with the capacity to seat up to 1,500 people and a new track with more lanes.
