New London — In recognition of National Domestic Violence Awareness Month, the New London Housing Authority and Wireless Zone of New London are holding a cellphone recycling drive to benefit victims of domestic violence.
Beginning Monday and continuing through Nov. 8, the public will be able to donate used cellphones and accessories, in any condition, from any wireless provider, by dropping them off at the New London Housing Authority office, 78 Walden Ave.
The used cellphones ultimately will be donated to HopeLine from Verizon, and either will be refurbished or recycled.
HopeLine scrubs all information from all cellphones.
Refurbished phones — with 3,000 minutes of service — are provided to local domestic violence organizations or local government and law enforcement agencies.
To donate a phone, erase any data and disconnect the device’s service with your wireless provider, remove storage cards and SIM cards, and include travel chargers and other accessories.
For more information, visit the Housing Authority’s Facebook page at www.facebook.com/NewLondonHousingAuthority.
