Groton motorcyclist injured in Ledyard crash

Ledyard — A Groton man was seriously injured early this morning when his motorcycle struck a tree on Route 117 near the intersection with Thomas Road.

Police said Andy Carpenter, 31, of 82 Marsh Road was flown by the Life Star helicopter to Hartford Hospital after the 1:56 a.m. crash.

Police said their initial investigation found that Carpenter was traveling on Route 117 when he lost control of his motorcycle, went off the road and struck a tree. The cause of this accident is under investigation.

In addition to Ledyard Police, the Ledyard Fire Department, Gales Ferry Fire Department and the Ledyard Volunteer Emergency Squad responded to the scene.
