New London police: Man arrested for urinating on police cruiser, possession of handgun

    Mark Bass

New London — Police arrested Tuesday a New London man who they say urinated on a marked police cruiser that was parked at police headquarters at 5 Gov. Winthrop Boulevard.

Police said that Mark Bass, 29, of 31 Starr St., who was visibly intoxicated, was also in possession of a fully loaded .40 caliber Glock semi-automatic handgun. Bass had a valid pistol permit, police said.

At about 10:13 p.m., an off-duty female officer arrived at work and saw Bass, with his genitals fully exposed, urinating on the cruiser. The officer stepped inside to notify the shift commander and get assistance.

When the officers returned to the parking lot, Bass was on the ground, partially underneath the police vehicle.

Police said Bass was extremely intoxicated and was not compliant with officers. Officers patted him down and discovered the handgun.

Bass had a small cut on his forehead but was unable to tell officers how he was injured, police said.

Bass was arrested and charged with carrying a loaded firearm while under the influence of alcohol and second-degree breach of peace. He was released on a $2,500 bond.
