Parents cautioned on report of school shootings

Newtown (AP) — Newtown's school superintendent is advising parents to limit their exposure to media coverage of the report on the investigation of the Sandy Hook shootings that killed 20 children and six educators last December.

In a letter sent Wednesday, Superintendent John Reed told parents he wants to give them time to think about how they may shield children from details of the report.

He said he's been informed the report will be released on Monday. A spokesman for the chief state's attorney's office would not confirm the release date, saying it will be at a time to be announced.

In the letter posted by The News-Times on its website, Reed encouraged parents to reach out to school administrators, counselors, psychologists and social workers to allay concerns about their children's emotional health.
