A gas leak on Montauk Avenue and Westomere Terrace in New London has been secured.
Battalion Chief Tom Curcio said a paving company milling the road accidentally struck a gas valve in the street, causing the leak. The incident was reported at 7:40 a.m., and residents were evacuated from their homes on Westomere Terrace, with some Montauk Avenue residents also evacuated. They were allowed back in their homes by 8:30 a.m.
Yankee Gas has secured the leak and is in the process of repairing the gas valve.
No injuries were reported.
