UConn receives a commitment from Ali

It's already been a busy Monday for UConn basketball news.

The Huskies received a verbal commitment from Class of 2015 recruit Prince Ali.

Ali tweeted the news on Monday. "It's been a long time coming I have officially committed to the university of Connecticut (Uconn)."

An athletic 6-foot-3 shooting guard, Ali attended UConn's win over Indiana Friday at Madison Square Garden in New York and made an unofficial visit to Storrs over the weekend. He is a junior at Sagemont School in Weston, Fla.

Ali was impressed with UConn Kevin Ollie and likes the program's style of play, according to Evan Daniels, national recruiting analyst for Scout.

"UConn has been recruiting him a long time," Sagemont coach Adam Ross told Daniels. "He's from the Bronx. He's a New York City kid. His dad retired and they moved to Florida the summer between eighth and ninth grade.

"He still has a lot of family in New York and that's home. UConn gives him the opportunity to go home. He really loves KO and he's fallen in love with their staff. KO did a great job recruiting him."

In other UConn news, senior Shabazz Napier was named the American Athletic Conference player of the week averaging 23.5 points, 4.5 rebounds and 2.5 assists in 2K Sports Classic wins over Boston College and Indiana last week. He earned tournament most valuable player honors.

In the championship win over Indiana, he scored a season-high 27 points. Seven of his 10 field goals either tied the game or handed UConn the lead.

The Huskies climbed from No. 18 to No. 13 in Monday's Associated Press Top 25 poll.
