Family of accident victim frustrated by New London police silence

New London — A woman who was hit by a car as she crossed Montauk Avenue Saturday night has been identified as Vivian McIntear, according to her brother.

Robert McIntear said his sister, who lives on Montauk Avenue near Blydenburg Avenue, was walking home from Cumberland Farms about 9:30 p.m. Saturday when she was hit by a car as she crossed the street.

Vivian McIntear, 50, is in critical condition in the intensive care unit at Yale-New Haven Hospital, he said, where she is on a respirator and suffering from multiple injuries, including head trauma.

“She got nearly every bone in her body broken,’’ he said Thursday.

New London police said they are investigating the incident and have made no arrests.

Robert McIntear said his family is frustrated because no one from the police department has talked to them about the accident. He said all they know is that there were two people in the car that hit his sister, and police say they are doing a thorough investigation. The driver of the car stopped at the scene, he said.

“They don’t tell us anything,’’ he said. “We don’t know what’s going on.”
