Middletown routs New London 49-14

Middletown — Quarterback Dario Highsmith rushed for 206 yards and three touchdowns while throwing for a fourth as fourth-seeded Middletown defeated No. 5 New London 49-14 in the CIAC Class L football quarterfinals Tuesday night.

Danny Maranda's 41-yard touchdown pass to Troy Gray with 6:59 left in the third quarter accounted for the first New London score and Jose Garcia ran 49 yards for a TD with only 1:38 remaining.

Middletown avenged a 23-21 loss to the Whalers during the regular season.
