New London - A promotional ceremony will be held later month for Detective Matthew Galante, who is being promoted to the rank of sergeant.
The ceremony is scheduled for 6:45 p.m. on Dec. 16 in City Council Chamber at City Hall.
A University of Connecticut graduate, Galante was hired by the department in 2001 as a lateral transfer from the Guilford Police Department. He was a K9 handler until 2009 when he was assigned to the investigations unit.
In 2008, while working with his K9 partner Ike, he was awarded the Daniel Wasson Memorial K9 Award by the Connecticut Police Work Dog Association.
“In the past 12 years, he has had a very impressive career,” according to an unsigned statement on the department’s Facebook page. “He has received countless accolades from supervisors, colleagues, and citizens for his professionalism, commitment, thoroughness, compassion, and integrity.”
