Home confinement for Navy kickbacks

The sixth and final person convicted in a long-running kickback scheme that cost the U.S. Navy $18 million has been sentenced to nine months of home confinement. Mary O'Rourke, who was sentenced Friday in federal court in Providence, must also pay back nearly half a million dollars to the Navy, serve 1,000 hours of community service and serve several years of probation.

O'Rourke was a lawyer and executive at contractor Advanced Solutions for Tomorrow and the girlfriend of the scheme's mastermind, Ralph Mariano. The judge said O'Rourke deserved to go to prison, but she got off easier because she pleaded guilty and saved taxpayers the expense of a trial.
