Waterford – The theft of two scopes used on guns carried by Millstone Power Station security guards has been reported to Waterford Police, Millstone spokesman Ken Holt said today.
The two scopes were found missing this fall during a routine monthly inspection of surplus equipment, Holt said. They were apparently stolen by a contractor who no longer works at the facility, he said.
One of the scopes has been recovered, but the other has not.
Both have trace amounts of radioactive tritium on the scope, according to a statement from the Nuclear Regulatory Commission today. Millstone reported the theft to the NRC. Improper handling of the scopes could result in temporary injury, the agency said.
Waterford police did not return a phone call requesting further information.
