OSHA investigates accident at Preston incinerator

Preston — The U.S. Department of Labor's Occupational Safety and Health Administration is investigating an industrial accident that seriously injured one person at the Preston incinerator on Route 12.

Warren Simpson, OSHA's area director in Hartford, said an official was at the scene Thursday and Friday.

Simpson said it was too soon to say how the contractor was injured, as the accident is under investigation. He did say the worker is still alive.

Preston firefighters responded to the accident shortly after 4 p.m. The man, who has not been identified, was taken to The William W. Backus Hospital.

An official at Covanta Energy could not be reached for comment Friday.
