    New London police say woman was robbed at gunpoint downtown

    New London – Police are searching for the suspect in a robbery Tuesday evening in the downtown area where they say a woman was robbed of her purse at gunpoint by a masked man.

    The incident occurred at 7:05 p.m. in the area of Bank and Blinman streets, according to a statement from Deputy Chief Peter Reichard. The victim said the suspect was a black man wielding a silver handgun whose face was covered by a gray ski mask. There were no reported injuries.

    The man was about 5 feet 7 inches tall and wearing gray sweatpants and sweatshirt. He fled the area on foot in the direction of Reed Street.

    Police continued to investigate late Wednesday and ask anyone with information to contact police at (860) 447-5269.
