The Massachusetts Gaming Commission has unanimously approved Mohegan Sun’s request for a waiver from a requirement that applicants for casino licenses submit certified referendum results by Dec. 31.
The vote, which was expected, will enable Mohegan Sun to file its plan for a resort casino on land the Suffolk Downs horse track owns in Revere. The plan, due by the end of the year, would be subject to a referendum in Revere that could take place in February.
Revere voters approved an earlier casino proposal that would have been located in Revere and East Boston, but East Boston voters rejected it.
If approved, the Mohegan Sun plan could compete for a license with Wynn Resorts’ plan for an Everett casino.
