The Indians opened their season with a 41-33 win at Lyman Hall on Dec. 18 and then took a 59-47 defeat at Immaculate the next night to stand at 1-1.
Against Lyman Hall, North Haven held an 11-0 lead after one quarter and never looked back en route to victory. Josh Lopez shot 6-of-11 and hit three three-pointers to score 16 points, fellow senior captain guard Matt Defrancesco scored eight, and Corey Frost added seven points for Pete Civitello's team. Defrancesco added two steals with five rebounds and Jack Steinmann had seven boards for the Indians, whose other senior captain is forward Patrick Mikos.
North Haven notched a win in its first game of the season by defeating Amity 7-4 at Bennett Rink in West Haven on Dec. 18.
The Indians trailed 1-0 late in the first period, but tied it at 1 entering a second period that saw Tom Roche's squad score four straight times to go up 5-1. The Spartans took advantage of some North Haven penalties to make it a 6-4 game in the third period, yet senior captain forward Anthony Fasulo put home a shorthanded goal that iced it at 7-4.
Fasulo had a hat trick with line-mate and senior assistant captain Chris Lion, a forward, contributing a goal with two assists. Cam Owens scored two goals with an assist and line-mate Mike Tantorski had a goal with two assists. Also dishing out assists were Tyler Luedee, Josh Back, Paul Gauvin, and Kyle Van Bramer. North Haven's other assistant captain is junior goalie Andrew Graziano.
